Oval rehab to shorten training time-A A +A
Sunday, July 27, 2014
TEAM Baguio will have less time to train in preparation for the 2015 Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic meet, if the scheduled rehabilitation for Athletic Bowl remains hanging until later this year.
Department of Education-Baguio supervisor for MAPEH and Sports Fernando Eleponga told Sun.Star Baguio the effects of the delayed project to the city's young athletes.
"One of our concerns sa delay ng improvements sa Athletic Bowl is the lack of time for training ng ibang mga athletes natin. Siyempre kapag walang lugar para magtraining hinto rin nga naman talaga ang practice ng mga bata," Eleponga said.
Eleponga said he already told local coaches especially those currently using the city owned sports facility to plan and look for alternative training areas once the project begins.
"I guess it will be up to the coaches how to find or look for alternative ways para i-train ang mga bata, pero siyempre ang concern lang talaga natin dito is to prepare them properly and in the right way," Eleponga added.
During the emergency meeting called for by Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week, Eleponga said agencies concerned with the procedure of the project were already rushed to take actions as soon as possible.
"When we met with the mayor, CBAO and DPWH were already told to come up with specific plans as soon as possible. The mayor asked them to quickly give their proposals so the rehab will proceed in the speediest time," Eleponga said.
The lack of master plan for the rehab remains to be the biggest problem as of now, according to Eliponga.
He added the Department of Public Works and Highways already reported the realigned P14.7 million fund requested by Congressman Nicasio Aliping earlier this year was already approved and is currently on the works as it will be used mainly for the reconstruction of the bleachers.
Meanwhile, the P100 million requested supplemental budget from the city is projected to be utilized by the City Building and Architects Office for the installation of tartan in the oval track, drainage, football field, and archery range.
"We are really hoping na maging mabilis sana ang pagtapos nila sa project para naman kahit sa Palarong Panglungsod ma-utilize na ng mga bata ang sports facility natin if possible," Eleponga stressed.
Meanwhile, the city council is yet to approve the transfer of the sport facility's management from the City Environment and Parks Management Office to the Office of the City Administrator under the City Sports Office. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
