BARANGAY Irisan opened its campaign on a high note after a 74-37 annihilation of the hapless Barangay Outlook squad in the ongoing eliminations of the 5th Samahang Barangay Pangkalikasan-Lawana Cup 2014 Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Irisan waxed hot from the offensive end with their starting five all closing the game with double digits in Sunday’s ballgame at the DPS Compound covered court.

Benjie Lorente led Irisan in the first half with 16 points, six rebounds, and four steals rallying against Outlook for a 24-8 edge in the first period of the ballgame.

Lorente was backed by point guard Jonas Gacula, who finished with 12 points for a 45-14 blowout at the end of the second quarter.

Meanwhile, the three-man team of Joseph Oribillo, Kit Mapanao, and Angelo Osio continued to sink their triples against the Outlook squad in the third canto adding 15 more points for a 62-28 gap, going into the fourth period.

Outlooks’ dynamic duo of Sonny Lagmay and Mike Cariaga kept the squad within 31 for a 66-35 count in the 3:00 mark of the pay-off canto, but the hot hands of Oribillo and Mapano blitzed the opponent away scoring the last eight points that pulled the win for their team.

“Nadala lang yan sa practice, we were able to defend the ball well in the start of the first period so nakita namin na we can outrun the other team. Akala namin they can adjust sa second quarter but happily we overpowered them sa offense,” said Irisan coach Daniel Madriaga.

“Hopefully we can deliver the same performance today sa mga following games namin, we still have to look out for the stronger teams.” Madriaga added.

Oribillo scored 12 points while Mapano finished with 11 with Osio adding 10.

Cariaga finished with 16 points and six rebounds, while Lagmay scored 10 including seven rebounds.
