LUALHATI Barangay Saints outclassed a listless Camdas Barangay side pulling a lopsided 79-52 victory, in their opening assignment in the 5th season of the Samahang Barangay Pangkalikasan-Lawana Cup 2014.

Angelo Mendoza pulled a game high 13 points while Carlo Gonzaga added 12, JP Sotelo had 11, and Dado Cristobal piled up 10 for the Lualhati based squad in Sunday morning’s ballgame at the Engineer’s Hill covered court.

“We won as a team kasi we all helped each other na makakuha ng puntos everytime mayroong opportunity, maganda ang naging rotation ng bola sa loob ng court and talagang pinahirapan namin sila sa floor defense,” said Lualhati Saints team captain Cristobal.

“Actually normal na sa amin yung laro kanina, halos magkakasama na rin kasi kaming lumaki sa paglalaro ng basketball so alam na namin ang skills ng bawat isa,” Cristobal added.

Cristobal joined forces with Aaron Prepuse during the first quarter hacking in 18 combined points, which helped the team to a 26-12 edge going to the second period.

Sotelo, Carlo Gonzaga, and Robert Zaparita continues to deliver damage against the hapless Camdas squad initiating 18 combined points to close the first half, 52-16, Saints still in front.

Jolly Erfe and Merick Luzano stepped up for Camdas at the break of the third canto by chipping in 12 points before the 7:00 minute mark but the Saints sustained their scoring prowess with a 31-point difference, 60-29, at the end of the period.

Mendoza sealed the deal for Lualhati in the pay-off period converting 11 straight points with a perfect three-of-three from the three-point area that gave a huge loss to Camdas.

Erfe led Camdas with 15 points, five rebounds and two steals, while teammates Luzano and Kenneth Salazar each finished with six points each.

Close to 60 local squads from the different barangays in the city are seen to participate in the 5-year old basketball league backed by the Liga ng mga Barangay of Baguio, aimed to promote sports camaraderie and environmental protection amongst its members.
