THE QM Queen of Peace squad opened their title bid with a spectacular display of basketball skills routing Sto. Rosario Valley Knights, 75-49, in the on-going eliminations of the 5th Samahan Barangay Pangkalikasan Invitational Basketball Tournament.

After a close 14-11 count at the end of the first period, QM Reds slowly pulled away in three quarters during Sunday's ballgame at the South Sanitary Camp covered court.

Hamed Alshati, Joel Atuban, and Jobert Bondoc erected a total of 58 combined points for the Reds.

Alshati, who dropped 15 points in the second period, also added eight rebounds for a 38-26 edge going into the second half of the ballgame.

The Knight squad misfortune continue in the third canto missing more than half of their attempts to trail 51-36.

QM continued to deliver the damage in the pay-off period with Atuban commanding the floor and firing another 15 points for a 69-37 lead with 4:00 remaining in the ballgame.

Sto. Rosario then managed to drop ten straight points courtesy of Rene Laguit, who missed the first three periods, to cut the lead to 69-47.

The Knights tried to narrow the difference even more in the 1:56 marker of the ballgame but that was the closest their team came as Bondoc delivered the last six points that sealed the victory for QM.

“Our initial game was actually dominating and we want to bring this towards our next contests,” said QM coach Ivan Badecao.

“Maganda ang naging teamwork ng isat-isa, the shooters converted the baskets and the defenders shut the ball against our opponents.

Hopefully this will last all throughout the season,” Badecao added.

Alshati finished with 22 points with Atuban adding 19 while Bondoc generated 17 markers.

Jhun-Jhun Gaerlan fired 15 points including three-of-four triples for the Knights, while Laguit added 10.
