RACING ace Carlos Anton drove a masterful race in the opening leg last month of the 2014 Philippine GT/PTCC Championships taking his first win of the season in style.

The defending Philippine Touring Car Champion Anton took the Pole in Qualifying and never looked back leading the race from flag to flag on board his reliable Ethanworxs-Works Bell Honda FD.

"It's a great way to start the 2014 season with this win. The car is running so well and the Advan tires are working their magic," said the Castrol-Yokohama champion driver Anton.

Ethanworxs-R33 teammate Paolo Mantolino placed second while 2010 Champion Joey Perry took the final spot on the podium.

2012 Champion William Tan crashed out early after an oil slick at the chicane caught a few drivers out and caused major problems during the race.

In the 2nd race of the day though, Anton would not be so lucky after he was tapped from behind by Jomari Yllana as Anton went passed the actor-racer at the R-bend. Anton went into a wild spin and was left helpless in the middle of the track.

The chasing pack of the GT 150 cars soon came around the blind corner and Richmond de la Rosa failed to see Anton stopped in the middle of the road causing him to broadside Anton and ending both their races.

“It happens in racing and Jomari apologized after the incident. I am just glad Richmond and I did not get too hurt in the accident," Anton said. Anton’s crash left a wild chase for the top step of the podium which team mate Mantolino eventually took with Perry in 2nd.

Anton’s engine is tuned by Jason Ong and is backed by Works Bell Japan, Castrol, Yokohama, ViewPark Hotel, ASR suspensions, Buddyclub, Cars Unlimited, Autoshack, Special Stage, JSD Autosport and GNS Dagupan. (PR)
