WITH seven more months before the regional sports meet, Baguio City will start to set up plans as it hosts the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association next year.

City Councilor Peter Fianza told Sun.Star Baguio the Summer Capital will be coming up with plans as it partners with the Department of Education-Division of Baguio.

“Around this week the committee in charge including DepEd-Baguio heads will have its meeting that will put CARAA 2015 in highlight,” the chairperson of the committee on education, culture and historical research said.

According to Fianza, the local government together with DepEd will be busy in the upcoming months as they look forward for a successful staging of the regional sports meet.

“This is the purpose of the arranged meeting actually, so that we can already manage everything from budget most specifically and all other concerns. We want Baguio to be cordial enough when all delegates from the entire region come,” Fianza said.

Fianza said apart from the financial aid coming from DepEd, the city will look into providing necessary funds that will back the operations next year.

“The city has been informed by DepEd-Baguio the needed allocation for all the preparations and hosting but we would like them to catalogue and be specific of where the amount of money will go to,” said Fianza.

“It is quite hard kung walang specifications but eventually we can bring solutions to that after we come across,” Fianza added.

Close to 5,000 athletes including coaches and their chaperones are expected to visit the city when CARAA 2015 kicks off on February.

Meanwhile, DepEd-Baguio Supervisor for MAPEH and Sports Coordinator Fernando Eleponga said around P2 million will be needed for the hosting alone.

Eleponga added the department will partner with the LGU in subsidizing the event.

“Merong mangagaling sa DepEd and meron din sa city. Tulungan lang yan, however proper disbursement will always be needed para maging maganda ang hosting natin,” Eleponga said.

Baguio City has been the consistent overall title holder for CARAA through the years including its 204-89-39 (gold-silver-bronze) medal haul earlier this year when the regional sports spectacle was held in the province of Benguet.

The scheduled conference between DepEd and the city officials will also include financial arrangements on the repairs and improvements of the athletic bowl.
