IN ITS effort to strengthen the league, the region's largest collegiate sports association is set to establish permanent constitution and by-laws awaiting approval from its executive committee.

Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League is set to start its upcoming 28th season and amendments with the rules are now eyed for a better staging of the league.

Season 27 commissioner Alec Mapalo of the University of the Cordilleras told Sun.Star Baguio of the pending approval on all the proposed changes that will soon be institutionalized for the region’s premier sports league.

“So far the executive board is reviewing all the proposals made as BBEAL constructs a handbook that will be already a concrete basis of all the rules and guidelines needed,” Mapalo said.

According to Mapalo, the revisions and other matters aimed to improve the collegiate sports league have been instituted upon agreement and support of all member schools.

“The soon to be changes has been agreed upon by all athletic coordinators and we hope that it will be formalized as it only aims to improve BBEAL,” Mapalo quipped.

He said the handbook will not only be a reference on the rules and guidelines as it will also help in the future lay-out of any other possible improvements.

Meanwhile, incoming BBEAL Season 28 commissioner Willy Antonio of this year’s host school Baguio College of Technology said the changes soon to be implemented will surely be a kick-start for a better sports league.

“Last season was really a beginning of new approach in the way BBEAL has been executed. It was a benchmark as the previous host school really aimed to upgrade. Hopefully as the youngest member school we can manage to continue with the goal,” Antonio said.

The BCT Atoms are currently in their third year of being a member for BBEAL since they joined in 2011.

“Although we will be hosting for the first time, we are confident to carry all necessary tasks as we know all the other schools and universities are hand in hand ready to help,” Antonio added.

BBEAL’s Season 28 expects to officially open on August 30 with the official turnover of the of the host school scheduled on the first week of July.

Aside from BCT and UC, members of the league are Baguio Central University, Philippine Military Academy, Pines City College Inc., Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, and the University of the Philippines-Baguio.

La Trinidad based Benguet State University and Cordillera Career Development College are also member of the collegiate league.
