IT'S ALL systems go for this year’s Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League with Baguio College of Technology hosting the largest collegiate league in the Cordillera region.
BCT, the youngest member in the 10 school conclave, since its acceptance three years ago will be hosting the league now on its 28th season which tentatively opens last week of August.
"As agreed within the executive committee, we will follow last year’s operation but with better improvements generally," said Season 28 commissioner Willy Antonio of host BCT.
Antonio, who also coaches the BCT Atoms men’s basketball team said the success of last year’s staging will bring a great challenge for the school that has only been with the league since 2011.
“We were a bit surprised and challenged at the same time when the executive committee endorsed our school to be the host this coming season,” said Antonio.
Antonio added BCT was uncertain on the hosting but eventually agreed after gathering pledge of support from other member schools.
“We were hesitant at first since we know we might not provide the proper venue and all but other sport coordinators and committee officers from the different schools said it won’t be much of a problem since everyone is willing to help in the successful staging of BBEAL,” Antonio added.
He said the official turnover of the host school will tentatively be scheduled on July 2 as last season’s host University of the Cordilleras hand over the chairmanship for the collegiate league.
Antonio added the 28th season of the BBEAL was tentatively set the last week of August to give way for member schools who will be opening their classes second week of August.
Aside from BCT and UC, members of the league are Baguio Central University, Philippine Military Academy, Pines City College Inc., Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, and the University of the Philippines-Baguio.
La Trinidad based Benguet State University and Cordillera Career Development College are also member of the collegiate league.
