TEAM Sergeross went back to their winning ways after tearing apart Codalian in bracket C in the ongoing eliminations round of the 2nd Budz Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.
Inspired by the San Antonio Spurs play of providing the extra pass during the NBA finals, Sergeross trounced Codalian, 93-89, at the Easter College gym Tuesday evening.
Former UB Cardinal forward Richard Bilibli electrified the crowd as he tallied 24 points including three from the three-point area helping Sergeross with a 20-point advantage, 30-10, at the close of the first period.
Sergeross then continue to send damages as former Data Center standout Kier Gonzaga, Efren Mariano, and Kenny Joseph combined for 17 points in the second period that kept the double digit lead at the close of the first half, 47-35.
But the architects managed to bounce back before the end of the third canto as siblings Weng and Khing Pascual, together with Nico Caliguing and Vic Batanes fast-tracked Codalian with fast-break points cutting down the gap by just two, 66-64.
Codalian managed to earn the first lead of the night as Khing dropped six straight points early in the pay-off canto to push away the erstwhile leading Sergeross, 69-73, with 7:37 running down the clock.
But Sergeross managed to break down their opponents and regain the lead as Bilibli, Gonzaga, and Tonton Mariano commanded the floor with superb team play hacking out a combined 22 points within the last four minutes that drained the dog-tired Codalian squad.
“We actually impressed ourselves tonight with the way we distributed the ball among each player, we hope to deliver the same strong performance in our following games,” said playing coach Efren.
“But we give credit to the top performers of the opposing team tonight, surely we drained them but it would have been a different story if all of their members were present,” Efren added.
Gonzaga finished with 15 points, while Tonton and Kenny Joseph added 12 points each.
Khing led Codalian with 32 big points including ten rebounds, with Weng adding 16 points and four steals, while Drexler Mayomis closed out with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
