Baguio’s bemedalled archers are hopeful to make their mark when they represent the country in the upcoming 2014 Seoul International Sports Fest in South Korea slated August 3-9.
Kareel Meer Hongitan and Tricia Bomogao are set to challenge their marksmanship against other international competitors in the annual sports competition.
Hongitan and Bomogao will represent the country after finishing in the top four of the National Ranking and Evaluation Competitions last April held in Cauayan City, Isabela.
Hongitan, who is now with the University of Baguio, and Bomogao of Saint Louis University, secured the second and fourth rank respectively to enter the Korean contest backed by the Philippine Archers National Network and Alliance (PANNA).
Together with Hongitan and Bomogao are top ranked Marie Crisha Merto from Dumaguete City and Mary Ibañez from San Fernando, La Union, completing the women’s team to banner the Philippine flag.
The competition backed by Benel Archery, Win&Win Archery, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Sports Council and Seoul Archery Association will be offering free board and lodging, and registration fee for each of the qualifying team in each division.
Archery coach Franklin Espiritu said he is confident the ladies team will be performing very well despite the short time to train together because of their different localities.
Espiritu mentioned they are trying to look for possible sponsors to fund one more team composed of archers from Baguio City.
“So far we are still working to find sponsors and produce another team, according to the invitation from the organizers of the competition in Seoul. we are entitled to create more but unlike the first pick teams, it must be self-funded,” Espiritu said. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
