NU sweeps PVF Intercollegiate eliminations

NATIONAL University easily disposed two rivals and strengthened its title retention bid in the ongoing 2014 PVF National Intercollegiate Volleyball Championships.

The UAAP men’s champion clinched four straight victories to easily march towards the quarterfinals after edging the top Baguio team.

The Bulldogs swept all other teams in bracket A toppling the erstwhile undefeated and Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League men’s titlist Saint Louis University Navigators, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22 and later on pounded LPU-Manila, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 in the quarterfinals.


Meanwhile, Emilio Aguinaldo College surprised spectators anew as they secure a semi-finals seat disposing bracket B leader Adamson University, 25-19, 26-24, 28-26.

National College of Business and Arts dislodged last year’s runner-up, University of the Philippines-Diliman in four sets, 26-24, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22.

The SLU men’s squad is scheduled to battle against Bulacan State University in determining the ranking for the semi-finals ass of this writing.

In the distaff side, the UP Lady Maroons will battle in crossover LPU-Laguna while Philippine Women’s University will settle a score against Lyceum Polytechnic University during the quarterfinals.

The Lady Maroons who settled for second last year, is seen as the top contender for this year’s contest with defending champion De La Salle University failing to make it in the weeklong contest.

Bannered by 13 teams in the men’s division and nine equally competitive squads in the women’s will battle for top honors until this Saturdayat the Saint Louis University Prince Bernhard gym.

The tournament backed by the Philippine Volleyball Federation aims to be a grassroots development program creating opportunities for students to showcase and enhance their volleyball skills and abilities.
