6 race legs to open Tour de Benguet

RUNNING enthusiast will be tested in this side of the country for the first installment of Tour de Benguet showcasing the challenging uphill and downhill terrains of the province.

Dubbed "A Run for Discovery", runners from all over the country will set foot across the province of Benguet covering a total of 140 barangays and 13 municipalities.

The running contest, spearheaded by Extremes Cordillera Sport Events, will host six separate events scheduled from June until October.


Included among its race legs will be the Strawberry Leg (June 2), Bronze Leg (June 21), Potato Leg (July 19), Handicraft Leg (August 23), Lions Leg (September 20), and Pineapple Leg (October 19).

Organizers said all race legs were named after the main products, famous sites, and livelihood found in the province.

The event, branded as the biggest series of foot races in the province, is created to promote the whole of Benguet covering race distances of 50K, 100K, 125K, 100K, 116K, and 50K respectively.

According to its organizers, P50,000 in cash will be given to winners of each categories of the race legs. The determination of the overall winner will be on a point system basis, which will be accumulated in the consecutive race events.
