UNIVERSITY of the Philippines unwrapped its title bid Tuesday in the women’s division of the 15th PVF National Intercollegiate Volleyball Championship at the CCDC and SLU Prince Bernard gym.

With defending champion De La Salle University out of the competition, the Lady Maroons hacked out an easy straight set win over Lyceum of the Philippines University - Laguna, 25-11, 25-19, 25-17 as Holy Angels University escaped a gritty University of Assumption in bracket B, 25-19, 25-22, 34-32.

LPU–Laguna later on bounced back to dispose Philippine Women’s University, 25-10, 25-14, 25-12.

In the men’s contest, Adamson University disposed LPU-Manila after closing their match-up in three sets, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22 for bracket B.

Bannered by 13 teams in the men’s division and nine equally competitive squads in the distaff, close to 300 collegiate athletes will battle for honors in this side of the country in a tournament which will end May 31.

Organized by the Philippine Volleyball Federation, the week-long tournament will be played at the Cordillera Career Development College, Benguet State University, and Saint Louis University.

Branded as Inter-Col, the event that was also held in the province back in 2011, is an annual volleyball championship of the PVF as part of the grassroots development program aimed to create opportunities for students to showcase and enhance their volleyball skills and abilities.

Bicol State University and Emilio Aguinaldo College will also light up the volleyball action in a competition aimed to give way for sports talents to be considered a spot in the National Youth Volleyball Team.
