WITHOUT any doubt, Persons with Disability athletes representing Baguio City are holding their own against the country’s best in the ongoing 2014 Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled – National Games.

Former policeman Allan Campos bagged two gold medals in athletics after topping the men’s 6kg shotput with his record of 6.67 meters and in the javelin throw with a 22.59 meters best.

Avegail Ann Agruta also snatched two gold mints in high jump with 1.00 meter record and in long jump competition with 1.75 meters.

Jaime Mangiga added one more gold medal in the men’s 5kg shotput event with his 8.10 meters best, while Rufino Humilan caught one bronze medal from the men’s javelin throw with a 16.95 meters throw.

Agustina Bantiloc also added one more bronze to the city’s medal haul as she ranked third in the women’s individual bowling competition.

Campos and Bantiloc will also represent the city in the archery competitions. Both represented the Philippines in the 7th ASEAN ParaGames held early this January, where Bantiloc hit a bronze medal and Campos ranked among the top ten male marksmen.

The 2014 Philspada National games coincides with the 2014 Philippine National Games where the Summer Capital brought 50 of its best PWD athletes to compete in athletics, archery, bowling, swimming, and wheelchair basketball.

City sports coordinator Gaudencio Gonzales said he is not expecting much from the Philspada entries but he believes the city based PWDs will be able to garner national attention.

He said the city will continue to grant opportunities to Baguio City’s PWD athletes supporting them to excel in their different fields of sport.

Other sports competition tapped in the 2014 Phispada are badminton, chess, goalball, powerlifting, boccia, and table tennis.

Meanwhile, Benguet also snatched medals as Eddie Mateo (5.57 meters), Luis Isidro (5.00 meters), and Delfin Palbusa (3.87 meters) took home gold, silver, and bronze accordingly in the men’s 4kg category shotput.
