LOCAL teams will once again battle for top honors as the second season of Budz Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament officially tips off May 25 at the Easter College gym.

Players from all-over Baguio City and Benguet will once again showcase their basketball skills in the multi-division tournament with some 30 teams joining.

Tournament organizer Edwin Edades said the second installment of the tournament will be as much as exciting during the initial opening in December 2013.

“This will be very much interesting as teams participating in our tournament showcase the best of amateur line-ups from Baguio City and Benguet, the second season will be sizzling with pure basketball action,” Edades said.

According to Edades, aside from the usual Most Valuable Player award, they will also include for the season the Best Coach award.

“We have seen during the first Budz Cup the importance of coaches in winning tight games, their efforts to keep each player focused and their love for the game. This time we will at least give them the recognition they deserve,” Edades quipped.

Organizers said teams will be bracketed into three skill categories namely regular, average, and above average.

The competition aimed to develop camaraderie amongst the enthusiasts of basketball will be giving out cash prizes and trophies to all champion teams at the end of the season.

“We still open our invitation until the first week of our opening, as usual we aim to encourage more participants to this tournament to it a well-known venue for promoting sports here in Baguio City,” Edades said.

The competition supervised by the National Amateur Basketball Referees Organization (NABRO) housed a total of eighteen contending teams during its first season, is seen to run until the first week of July.
