FRESH from winning the Baguio leg of the 2014 Coca-Cola PBA Young Stars, the University of the Cordilleras Laboratory High School will gun for the North - Central Luzon Regional Finals in Pampanga slated May 13-15.

“We will try our very best to compete against other champions of the other legs of this competition,” said UC coach Rommillie Garcia after winning against Saint Louis University Laboratory High School Wednesday afternoon.

The UC junior Jaguar-Team B squad toppled rival SLU-LHS in a single game finals competition at the University of Baguio Cardinals gym, 84-68.

“We came out as the best juniors basketball team in this tournament and we raise our hopes of defeating our competitions in the regionals,” said Garcia.

“The team is hungry to steal the limelight in the National Finals but before that we shall take care of the competing squads in the next ladder of this contest,” Garcia added.

UCLHS bested nine other competitors from Baguio City to earn their ticket and advance their way ahead of the tournament held in specific places around the Philippines.

“We expect to condition our boys and train them well before we go to Pampanga, I guess the regionals will be very interesting since all of us do not have much time of scouting other leg champions,” Garcia quipped.

Supervised by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and sponsored by Coca-Cola, the PBA Young Stars aims to scout promising young talents to serve as a scouting pool for other national and international competitions.

SBP North Central Luzon Head Danny Soria said he looks forward to the UC team representing Baguio City.

“We have seen their performances here and very well they were able to show the good potential. I hope they continue to do the same come the regionals, siyempre iba pa rin kapag Baguio ang nakapasok sa national finals,” Soria quipped.

UCLHS will have to beat other tournament leg champions from Pangasinan and Pampanga before qualifying to play at the Smart Araneta Sports Coliseum on May 18-25.
