Vinluan: Avoiding bad training days

MANY if not all athletes who train rigorously can experience a bad training day in a week in their field of sport. Usually, they feel sluggish and have no vigor in their training and usually feel wiped out at the end, even they cut short their days’ training.

According to experts, there are several things that could cause your less-peppy training workouts. Number one on the list could be your diet. Your eating habit can be one factor especially when you splurge on foods a little too high on fats which leave you to feel sluggish. You’re sleeping habits and your stress levels at home and work or any other changes in your normal routine that makes you feel unusually tired are also several factors that cause your bad training day.

Aside from a low mental, emotional and physical biorhythm levels, experts also say that being dehydrated on a bad training day will make you feel drained before and after workouts. It is advisable to quench your thirst often during the day. Sipping water or a sport drink during your workout will help you hydrated adequately.


Besides ensuring yourself to be always hydrated, make sure to have an adequate carbohydrate intake of at least 400 grams a day or at least ten servings of breads, cereals and grains with at least five servings of fruit and vegetables. The consistency of your carbohydrate intake is important when training because it refuels the body of the needed energy for better performance. Without carbohydrates, it is as if you’re sending yourself in a mission impossible.

Experiencing a bad training day is common to athletes, and the fact this happens is because of potential energy thieves that causes your fatigue. Other energy thieves you must avoid is caffeine, this also could contribute to your occasional feeling of fatigue, experts say that it also causes withdrawal symptoms of headaches and feeling of fatigue when most likely coffee drinkers abstained.

Not only is coffee the caffeine culprit, think about many other caffeine containing teas, and sodas containing the same caffeine substance, these must also be considered as potential energy thieves. Bad training days are unexpected; it is up to the individual athlete to cope up with it. After experiencing a bad training days consider taking some time off, maybe all you need is a good rest.
