Orbito leads PGF North Luzon qualifiers

JOSEPH Orbito scored 132 molave points in two rounds to fashion out a three point lead against his closest pursuer in topping the 15-17 boys in the Northern Luzon qualifiers of Philippine Golf Foundation Junior Masters Series at the Baguio Country Club Golf course.

Orbito fired a back to back 66 for a two day aggregate of 132 to clinch one of the two slots disputed in his division for the match play national finals slated later this year with Lanz Uy settling for second with an aggregate 68 - 135 to earn the last qualifying seat in their age group while Allenby Jiro shot a 64- 137 who did not make it to the national finals.

Luigi Paolo Wong was the top qualifier in the 13-14 boys age group with a 65- 129 two day aggregate while Ryan Monsalve also earned a seat with a 67 - 138 after a decent second place finish. Liam Cully's 69- 143 aggregate was good for third.


In the 11-12 boys category, Philippe Palanca had 70-135 aggregate to win the age group and will be joined by second placer Jolo Timothy Magcalayo who placed second with a 73-136 while Josh Jorge had a 70-138 total to settle for third but will not be eligible for the national finals.

Sean Granada was the runaway winner in the 9-10 boys age group after hitting 76 - 150 while Francis Lanuza also qualified with a 75- 158 total. Maiao Castaneda registered an 82 - 163 for a third place finish.

In the 15-17 years old girls category, Lou Daniella Uy fired a 68 in the second round for a two day total of 134 to top the age group and qualify for the national finals while Nikki Bruce took the other finals slot with a 73 - 143. Placing third is Chanelle Avaricio with a 66 - 145.

Sam Bruce had a 69- 145 while Jona Angela Magcalayo had 77 - 153 for a 1-2 finish in the 13- 14 years old age group and a ticket to the national finals.

Nicole Abelar shot 72 - 147 in topping 11 - 12 girls age group while Mariel Tee had 86 - 165 to win the other finals seat while Mika Arroyo finished third with an 86 - 167.

Arnie Taguines scored a 77 - 155 to earn the championship in the 9 - 10 girls while Annyka Cayabyab-Pineda fired 81 - 158 for a first runner-up finish while Samantha Dizon settled for third with an 80 - 158.

From Baguio, Cebu Country Club hosts the Visayas leg on April 28-29 then to Del Monte in Bukidnon for the Mindanao stop on May 1-2 and Mt. Malarayat in Lipa, Batangas for the Southern Luzon leg on May 21-22.

Launched last year, the Philippine Golf Foundation is supporting the event anew as part of its talent development program that is expected to keep the jungolfers in shape for the big events lined up for them in the coming months.
