Dagsian beats Jireh; advances to semifinals

SILVER Ngoddo and Flynn Dao-wan capped out 28 combined points in the pay-off period to rally Dagsian United towards the semis beating Team JIREH, 97-88, in the bracket C of the 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Dagsian U did what their team does best, turning the tables late in the fourth quarter after trailing the first three periods of their ballgame at the Easter College gym Sunday evening.

“We look forward to our games in the semis, actually the players in our team are so hyped right now that they show much promise to steal a championship this season,” said Dagsian coach Noel Ferrer after the game.


Ferrer added they will continue to improve come the semi-finals as they face other local veteran squads.

“Our focus right now is to play our best, we know we will match-up against taller and more experienced player but I believe all the players, especially the young guns got what it takes to win this tournament,” Ferrer added.

Trailing by just four points after the third canto, 57-61, Dagsian U stepped up ball defense at the break of the fourth quarter posing to steal the momentum as Dao-wan challenged the other team dropping eight straight points to move ahead, 71-69, in the 7:19 marker.

But the gritty squad of JIREH stayed close as Noel Berjay stepped up dropping 13 straight points to trail by two, 87-85, with 1:17 remaining in the match’s clock.

But Dagsian, extended their lead, 95-85, with 30.6 ticks left before the buzzer, behind Ngoddo who added another 13 straight points.

Ngoddo led Dagsian with 24 points four steals, and three rebounds, Dao-wan added another 13, while teammate Louie Dumo flared up with a double-double of 18 points and 11 boards.

Kits Ocawe scored 18 points for JIREH including 12 in the third quarter, while Berjay and Emil Tomas capped out with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
