Castañeto, Mangsat shine in 1st Heroes Run

LOCAL marathon monarchs Cesar Castañeto Jr. and Jessa Mangsat served notice to other participants as they outclassed the men and women’s 10-kilometer category of the 1st Noble Trends Unbound Inc.–Heroes Run held April 5 at Camp John Hay.

Castañeto, a University of the Cordilleras athlete, led the pack of runners crossing the finish line clocking in 34 minutes and 43 seconds, while Mangsat, from the University of Baguio, conquered the distaff side with 42 minutes and 16 seconds.

NTUi special projects officer Nathan Agngaray said the fund raising activity was quiet successful despite holding it the first time.
“We are thankful for all the supporters and sponsor especially the people who sacrificed their efforts to actually run in and be a part of our fund raising sport event,” Agngaray said.


Ireneo Raquin came a split second behind for the second spot crossing the line with 34:44 in the pine tree roofed race trail followed by Robert Arellano who snatched the third place finish with 39:14 in the 10K men.

Long-distance runner Sandi Menchi Abahan (44:17) and Cherry Doronilla (51:15) placed second and third, respectively, completing the top three spots in the distaff of the 10-kilometer race.

Aldrin Seño landed first place in the men’s 5-kilometer category after clocking 19:25, followed by Gremil Galut (19:33) and Reymark Quezada (19:37) coming in top two and top three spots, accordingly.

Meanwhile, Baguio City National High School runners Sisa Mae Caronongan (26:09), Kaizelle Vergara (26:10) and Agustina Anganayon (27:18) snatched the top three spots in the 5K female category.

Jayron Arellano lorded the 3K male with a total time of 12:54, followed by Hussein Loraña (13:01) and Hassan Loraña (13:03) for the second and third place finish, respectively.

Mary Grace Zamudio (14:51) from Doña Josefa Elementary School topped the female 3K race as Christine Taruc (19:33) followed by Chrislyn Cudli (16:43) from Mt. Province earned the second and third ranks.
Close to 500 runners joined the benefit run organized by Cool City Running Team headed by Che Alberto.

Partnering with Gawad Kalinga and in cooperation with the Diocese of Baguio, the inaugural event will help generate financial funds in support with GK’s Bayani Challenge happening from April 12-June 12 in different areas all over the Philippines.

“Heroes Run”, the corporate social responsibility project of NTUi, holds to continue for the next ten years aiming to help build houses for the typhoon Yolanda victims.
