BAGUIO-Benguet Educational Athletic League season 27 basketball champions University of Baguio Cardinals is eyeing another national crown this time with their participation in the upcoming Private Schools Athletic Association National Games in Tagum City, Davao del Norte April 6-12.

Cardinals head coach Joel Flores said he is once again looking forward to their participation in the national collegiate games.

"I hope the boys could perform well inside the court, I guess the long-time preparations we have had make us an improved team than before," said Flores during an interview.

He added the competitions will be tough in Tagum City and expects other collegiate squads had also undergone tougher preparations.

“Physically we are well prepared, nothing seems to make us more ready than today. I just don’t know if mental interruptions from my players will keep them from performing their best in the week-long tournament,” Flores said.

Flores said he is targeting beyond the semi-final rounds of the competition, and have a better finish than former BBEAL champion University of the Cordilleras which reached the semis round.

“Siguro we will try to reach that standing, but if possible we will keep moving forward. Our team is different in a way but until then we will just focus to do our best plays during every game there,” Flores quipped.

The Cardinals will be bannered by speedy guards Ranzae Cosme, Kendrick Basan, and Darrien Ocassion, will try to set the tone for their team and cover for the height disadvantage from other collegiate squads from the country.

Basan and Occasion played huge part in UB’s championship run during the BBEAL’s 27th season after two dismal campaigns in the 25th and 26th edition of the region’s largest collegiate league.

Included in the line-up are center Noel Cathedral and forward Mark Arellano and will be backed by Aljon Macalintal and Samuel Ian Sena, who also played an important role in snatching UB’s 22nd basketball crown after defeating back to back titlist UC Jaguars.

"Basically with the line-up we have including the younger players, I am confident they can perform well inside the court," Flores said.

“The important reminders I always keep telling the boys are to minimize their errors and keep a fast pace of ballgame,” Flores added.
