Baguio archers top PANNA

BAGUIO City archers aimed and hit their mark anew after topping the 1st PANNA Regional Ranking Evaluation 2014 & Archery Tournament for a cause held at the Baguio Athletic Bowl shooting range recently.

Dominique Dizon led the Summer Capital archers after winning in the recurve cadet men 70 meter event with his 463 total points, while Mark Daniel Campos and Winselle John Espiritu came in second and third with 452 and 442 points accordingly.

In the distaff side, Kareel Meer Hongitan ruled with 583 points, as Loren Clhoe Balaoing ranked second with 487 together with Shanaya Rose Dangla scoring 482 for third.


Jayson Mendoza topped the recurve junior men’s 70 meter contest with 531 points, while Abelardo Villamor and Emannuel Balbuena completed the top three placers after scoring 526 and 508 respectively.

Gaway Tricia Bomogao, Jezreel Mitzi Hongitan, and Donnalen Villamor were the top three in the recurve junior women 70 meter with 614, 513, and 502 points.

In the men’s senior 70 meter contest, Carl Buenaventura ruled over Jonathan Delos Reyes and Melvin Jones Isican scoring 639, 461, and 422 points accordingly.

Fiona Marie Salazar scored 273 while Kristine Faith Salazar had 196 in the yeoman girls contest, with James Alexander Jacob topping Jethro Fernandez with 174 over 143 points in the yeoman boys.

Jemuell James Espiritu (331) bested Joshua Fernandez (308) in the bowman boys category, while Danielle Jasmin Espiritu (357), Jemimah Rey Mina (311), and Andrea Alvaro (279) completed the top three in the girls bowman category.

Cedrick Mendoza (501), Wilson Wong (487), and Rondayle Pioquinto (455) topped the cub men’s 50 meter contest, while Charmaine Angela Villamor (507), Princess Justin Mae Talimio (379), Brette Leean Hongitan (315) were in the top three in the distaff.

According to archery coach Franklin Espiritu, the regional ranking will be the basis of selecting athletes to compete for the national classification.

“After the regional rankings from all over the country there will be a national ranking where the top six among the pool of athletes will be chosen as candidates to join the Philippine team,” Espiritu said.

"Right now, the chances for our city athletes are quite strong since yung mga dating malalakas na competitors from other areas ay above the age limit na," Espiritu added.

The regional ranking was alos a fund raising event for the improvement of the archery shooting range behind the swimming pool area.
