LA UNION College of Nursing, Arts, and Sciences Lion Hearts scored another one-sided contest to advance in the finals of the open bracket in the 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

Leading all the way right at the get go, LUCNAS repeated over the collegiate all-star Team DOS-Grumpy Joe, 127-87, of the tournament backed by Tea House at the Easter College gym Sunday afternoon.

Kevin Anthony Rillarosa led the Lion Hearts with 26 points, including six triples, to fire up LUCNAS, which led away from start to finish with Renbert Bayo and Jonathan Greygochea adding 22 and 20 markers apiece.

"We knew we were more focused than the other team and we never backed down from start to finish,” said LUCNAS coach Louie Aquino.

Aquino added the team will surely go all out for the crown in the finals.

“As usual it will still be the same, we shall play hard in order to win,” Aquino said.

“Hopefully the boys will come focused and perform well, we should all just keep moving towards our goal until then,” Aquino added.

Rillarosa and Bayo teamed up for the Lion Hearts combining 39 points at the close of the third canto to lead Grumpy Joe, 89-65, together with second stringer JM Yasay who added another 12 points in the last two minutes of the period.

But the hometown collegiate squad did not let the game just slip away as Rudolf Eilinger, Jeff Macadaeg, and Arky Go forced their way with 18 points in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit at 94-79, with 6:40 running in the fourth quarter.

Greygochea and Bayo then padded the lead for LUCNAS as they chipped in another 20 points that sealed the victory for their team.

LUCNAS closed the first quarter with a 21-19 advantage and enjoy a 55-35 at half time.

Christian Galace led the Grumpy Joe with 24 points, with Macadaeg adding 18, while Go and Eilenger had 15 points each.
