A STINT in the 2014 Seoul International Sports Festa will be the foremost goal of local archers as they aim their mark in the upcoming North Luzon Qualifiers in Cauayan City, Isabela set on April 11-12.
The local squads who will be vying for top honors in the regionals are now undergoing training in eyeing a slot for the Korean tiff slated August 3-9 in Seoul.
Archery coach Franklin Espiritu confirmed the city’s participation in the qualifiers which will be joined by nearby regions.
“We have already signed some teams that will be competing in the regional qualifying contest, and we are optimistic that all or most of them will get a chance to advance in the nationals,” Espiritu said.
Espiritu said he is confident the city archers will dominate the regionals.
“We are optimistic that our entries will head to the nationals, actually the city has a high chance to be the representatives for Korea since we have been one of the top builders of potential young archers,” Espiritu quipped.
According to Espiritu, they are looking to send 12 archers from secondary schools to participate in the regionals.
“As of now we have listed 12 but we are still looking to scale more teams just to add chances and showcase the talents of our athletes and expose them in national competitions such as this,” Espiritu added.
According to the invitation given by local coordinators Benel Archery, the contest backed by Win&Win Archery, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Sports Council and Seoul Archery Association will be offering free board and lodging, and registration fee for each of the qualifying team in each division.
Simultaneous with the North Luzon qualifiers, two other qualifying legs will also happen in the National Capital Region, Visayas and Mindanao area.
