UB punctuates Lucnas first loss

DESPITE absorbing its first loss in the tournament, La Union College of Nursing, Arts and Sciences Lion Hearts remained atop the team standings in the eliminations round of the on-going 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The UB Cardinals punctuated the first loss via a 79-74 outing during the weekend at the Easter College gym.

The winningest Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League men’s basketball champion UB Cardinals, displayed a superb game execution behind the trio Kendrick Basan, Ranzae Cosme, and Darrien Occasion.


“We’re here to develop and improve our team in terms of play executions, we are not here to win the tournament, mas importante that the boys will get the most learning most especially from the veterans who are participating here,” Cardinals coach Joel Flores said earlier.

UB improved its record with a 3-2 card while Lucnas remained on top with five wins in six games.

LUCNAS earlier toppled the Dagupan based Lyceum Northwestern University Dukes for a solo second with a 4-1 card.

SLU Navigators, the other BBEAL collegiate team sits at fourth with an identical 3-3 win loss slate.

Dos – Grumpy Joe and GWE currently shares the number five spot with a 2-4 record in the tournament which is still part of the annual Baguio Flower Festival celebration which closed March 2.

Meanwhile, the Agoo based Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University Stingers failed to secure any win and on the brink of elimination with four defeats in four games.

Officiated by the National Amateur Basketball Referees Organization - Baguio, the tournament aimed to develop basketball camaraderie and highlight basketball skills among the city and neighboring provinces and is expected to run until the second week of April.
