REPRESENTATIVE Nicasio Aliping Jr. is eyeing for the immediate implementation of the proposed rehabilitation and development of the Baguio City Athletic Bowl.

With the budget already released, Aliping is awaiting for the endorsement of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to re-align the project proposal in order to start the said improvements in the city’s main sport facility.

"My office already sent a request for project re-alignment to DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson and we are just waiting for his approval para hopefully ma-umpisahan na natin ang project," Aliping told Sun.Star Baguio.

Aliping said the proposed P14.7 million budget from the DPWH is part of the General Appropriations Act for 2014.

He said the request for project re-alignment was needed since the original proposal was to construct a multi-purpose building in the Athletic bowl.

"We need to meet certain requirements para mabigyan ng budget ang improvements sa Athletic Bowl, good thing with the help of DPWH we were able to get some funding," said Aliping.

"Right now kailangan lang ng go signal since the arrangement proposed was to improve the oval’s track including the bleachers and grandstand," Aliping added.

He said the improvements are a part of the first phase improvements of the area.

The lawmaker said he has already submitted a request to DPWH for another P20 million allocation in 2015 to be used as an additional funding for the area’s improvement.

Meanwhile, Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the city will source-out another P17 million supplemental budget to include in the said project.

"The priority is the installation of tartan tracks in the oval, the concreting and rehabilitation of its canals to include changing the roofing and posts in the view deck," Domogan quipped.

The mayor added once the improvements for the facility are done, it will only be used for its intended purpose.

Aside from the P31 million total allocation, the city also earmarked another P8 million to replace the swimming pool's heating system
The city targets to speed up the improvements in time for the hosting of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic association slated next year.
