AFTER winning the recent 1st Talk N’ Text Regional 3-on-3 challenge March 15-16, the Saint Louis University Laboratory High School Cubs are eyeing a possible upset against their much taller opponents in the national finals on May.

SLU-LHS head coach Samuel Tadeo said the team will gear up early and focus on improving the streetball skills of his players in time for the national event.

“This is certainly new for these young players since for the past few years we are always practicing a five-man play of game inside the court, with the given time we will re-focus to practice sa lahat ng aspect ng laro,” Tadeo told Sun*Star.

He added since they expect a taller competition for the nationals, they will focus on improving their advantages against their upcoming opponents.

"Surely mas malalaki na naman ang mga makakalaro natin sa nationals, right now ang pinaka-easy way to improve our chances is to focus in refining our speed sa execution ng mga plays inside the court," Tadeo said.

"If the boys can be quicker in moving sa half-court baka maging edge natin 'yun since streetball ang rule of play dito, I hope we can progress sa haba ng preparation that we have," Tadeo added.

The four-man team of Galo Berlyn Garlejo, Jay Atijera, Ian Chester Anis, and Arvin Miko Daniel are set to face 19 other squads from the five different sub-regions of the country sanctioned by SBP in May 24-25.

According to the organizers, the 1st TNT 3x3 streetball challenge will serve as a pre-FIBA world cup hype for the Gilas National Team.

Backed by FIBA, the international governing body for basketball, in partnership with the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas and sponsored by the MVP Group of Companies, the sports event is a part of the grassroots program in promoting basketball in the country.
