LA UNION College of Nursing, Arts and Sciences scored their third straight victory after dislodging the city based Team DOS in the eliminations round of the 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

The LUCNAS Lion Hearts rallied towards a 12-3 run in the first three minutes of the ballgame and never backed down since, defeating the collegiate all-star opponents at the Easter College gym Saturday afternoon in the open bracket of the tournament.

Rico Francisco scored 22 while center Renbert Bayo capped down another 19 to secure a 3-0 slate for LUCNAS in the season.

The collegiate all-star Team DOS found themselves luckless against the visiting team as they missed a lot of baskets to trail behind LUCNAS by double digits, 29-16, at the end of the first quarter.

Team DOS then managed to step-up their ballgame as they cut the lead into six, 42-36, at the close of the first half as Archie Reyes, Jeff Macadaig, and Christian Galace chipped in 16 points against LUCNAS.
But the visiting squad continued to add damage as Francisco and Bayo teamed up to stay within a three-point advantage closing the third canto, 60-57, DOS trailing.

The highland all-star squad staged to steal the lead as Macadain delivered a three-point shot to narrow the gap at 63-62, with 8:00 running in the clock, but it was scrapped by Francisco and Jonathan Greygochea combing 18 more points in the outing to seal the deal for LUCNAS.

“So far so good, maganda naman ang ipinapakita ng mga bata. Lagi ko lang nire-remind na dapat every game lagi silang maging focus para ipanalo ang laro,” said LUCNAS coach Louie Aquino.

“Medyo nakita namin na veteran na ang mga kalaro kanina so ang naging gameplan para hindi nila kami malamangan sa second half ay yung mahigpit na depensa,” Aquiono added.

Macadaig, Reyes, and Jovet Mendoza each scored 15 points for Team DOS while teammate Galace capped out with 13 points, two boards, and two steals.
