LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte -- Ilocos Norte athletes have once again proven that they are the best in the region by dominating the 2014 Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA).

Heading into the final day of competitions, Ilocos Norte amassed an unassailable total of 445 points or at least 227 points in elementary and 218 points in the secondary division. The other finishers in their order are Dagupan City, Urdaneta City, San Fernando City, Ilocos Sur, Batac City, Laoag City, Candon City, San Carlos City, Alaminos City and Vigan City.

Ilocos Norte’s dominance in sports started ever since the time of legendary sports czar, former Ilocos Norte Governor Michael M. Keon and fortunately, Ilocos Norte team’s dominant performance has been sustained now under the administration of first degree cousin, Governor Imee Marcos, who is set to arrive in Ilocos Norte on Tuesday following her visit to the Vatican, joining the delegation of Orlando Cardinal Quevedo when he was elevated to the School of Cardinals.

On Monday, the Ilocos Norte board led by Vice Governor Angelo Marcos Barba lauded the Ilocos Norte athletes for winning the overall title in this sporting event.

“In behalf of the province, we would like to congratulate our athletes and their coaches for a job well done. We owe to celebrate and congratulate ourselves,” said provincial board member Vicentito Lazo, who reported the result of the R1AA during the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. (PR)
