LYCEUM Northeastern University Dukes secured their third win Sunday by edging GWE in the on-going eliminations of the open bracket in the 8th Panagbenga Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament.

After securing an 18-9 run in the first quarter, the Dukes never backed down as they closed a 97-91 win against the service contracting firm.

Julius Palaganas dropped 21 points, Rodcel Yanga added another 20, while Lloyd Dollaga chipped in 16 marker to help Lyceum secure another victory.

“So far so good naman ang performance ng team, we are here to compete that’s all we do good thing all the boys are doing well entering the court every game,” said Lyceum coach Angel Gumaran after the game.

Gumaran added they look forward to do better in the next game.

“We always prepare every time we come into a competition, I guess that would be the best answer why we are in our third streak win,” Gumaran quipped.

After a nine all deadlock all in the 6:50 mark of the first quarter, the Dukes shook-off the veteran laiden GWE with a 30-23 edge in the first quarter behind Palaganas, Yanga and, George Alipio.

GWE then tried to take-over in the second quarter as Alex De Guzman and Heinz Acdong chipped in 11 points to narrow the gap at 39-34 with 5:11 running, but the visiting Lyceum squad continue to add some damage closing the first half with a nine point edge, 54-45.

GWE then tried to level the game in the third canto as Acdong, Jerry Rigos, and Saturnino Solis stepped-up their ballgame but it was silenced when Palaganas converted six straight points via fast break to remain on top, 73-68.

GWE recovered in the pay-off canto as they close the gap at 88-85, in the 2:50 mark with Solis and Bart Parrocha commanding the floor, but it was a little too late as Palaganas and Dollaga dropped the last points that sealed the victory for Lyceum.

Acdong and De Guzman dropped 18 points apiece for GWE, while Rigos contributed 11 points.
