UNIVERSITY of Baguio Archery Team hit their marks as they grabbed the overall crown in the recent 2nd Pampanga Agricultural College Invitational Archery Tournament at PAC Magalang, Pampanga held February 15 to 16.

Kareel and Jezreel Hongitan along with Donalen Villamor, Emmanuel Balbuena, Ismael Taguinay, and Daniel Maglalang brought along their sharp shooting skills to dominate the event backed by PAC Archery Club, SMART, and Talk ‘N Text.

The Cardinals shooting squad snatched the overall crown after dominating host Pampanga Agricultural College and Bulacan State University in the 30 meter, 50 meter, and Olympic round competitions.

Freshman Kareel was the most bemedalled competitor hauling three gold medals in the individual rounds sweeping the challengers in the 30m, 50m, and Olympic round, while Jezreel took pride towing two bronze in the 50m and Olympic round contest.

Villamor snatched silver in the men’s 30 meter after scoring a total of 297 points, while Taguinay placed third in the same event.

“I am proud that the team were able to bag the overall title, actually malakas naman ang kompiyansa ko sa kanila so when they informed me that they were invited I told them to go event without me,” said Archery coach John Hongitan.

Hongitan then mentioned to recommend UB to strengthen their archery team.

“Actually UB is one of the powerhouse universities pagdating sa archery at the present, I believe aside from the team they should develop the sport and organize their own club,” Hongitan said.

“Although may team kasi, it will only function kapag may competitions unlike kapag may club they can accumulate more members and even organize their own events where mas makikilala sila,” Hongitan added.

Hongitan added it will also be better if UB will have its own coach for the sport.

“Kulang kasi tayo actually sa coaches, pero wala namang problema dun that’s why we try to look for people who are willing to learn from us para kapag mahusay na, sila na rin mismo ang mag-coach ng sport na ito,” Hongitan quipped.

“And the capability ng mga collegiate archers natin talagang kaya nilang makipagsabayan, andun na kasi yung peak ng skills and talent which started from the grassroots,” Hongitan said.
