Castaneto, Gayao tops 1st BBEAL Love Run

UNIVERSITY of the Cordilleras’s Cesar Castaneto and city runner Juliet Gayao displayed extraordinary skills as they top the 10-kilometer division of the 1st Baguio-Benguet Educational Athletic League season 27.

Castaneto topped the men's 19-and-above category with a time of 40:59 while Gayao ruled in the distaff after clocking 1:07:23.

Aldrin Seno checked in second with 42:52 followed by Rogie Rubang (44:19) to take third place honors in the men’s 19-and-above 10K, while Myrna Cong-o (1:24:46) and Angelica Gonzales (1:26) rushed to cross the finish line for second and third placers for the female division.


Mark Christian Garcia dominated the male 18-and-below category after clocking 44:48 period, while Judel Castaneto followed by Joshua Dongla completed the top three spots with 49:49 and 1:02:52, respectively.

Ajvine Maguilang, on the other hand, was the sole winner in the female 10K 18-and-below with a time of 1:24:15.

BBEAL 2014 Love Run, one of the established side events for the season, was hurled to raise funds to help the first search for Mr & Ms BBEAL this coming March 1, at the University of Baguio gymnasium.

The event backed by Smart and JVC Sports Center housed some 2,000 runners from the 10 different participating schools of BBEAL with other running enthusiasts from the city.

UC will close the 27th season of the BBEAL with an awards gala night on the March 8 where awards will be given to excelling athletes as well as the winning teams for the 18 sporting events.

The UB Cardinals remained atop the team standings with 11 championships in the annual collegiate tournament.

After a slow start in the first phase of the competition, season 27 host UC Jaguars moved up to number two with a total of seven after adding three more championships in the second part of the tournament.

SLU, with three championships in the first phase, slid to number three with five championships including their recent win in the diamond.

Other schools participating in the collegiate sports competitions include Benguet State University, Baguio College of Technology, Cordillera Career Development College, Philippine Military Academy, Pines City Colleges, Benguet Central University, and University of the Philippines-Baguio.
