SOME 500 student athletes were lauded by the City Government after defending the over-all crown at the close of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association held February 7-11 in the province of Benguet.
The Summer Capital athletes ran away with 204 golds, 89 silver and 39 bronze medals in bagging the crown since Baguio hosted the annual regional sports meet in 2009 and presented the over-all trophy to city officials led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan during Monday's flag raising ceremony at the City Hall.
Domogan congratulated each of the delegate athletes and their coaches for their remarkable achievements for the city.
"Remember that the City of Baguio is proud of your efforts in defending the city's crown in the prestigious CARAA competition," Domogan said.
The mayor also lauded and expressed his appreciation to Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan in challenging Baguio athletes for the over-all crown.
"I would like to thank the governor of Benguet for challenging our athletes and their athletes at the same time to present a noble competition during the event," Domogan said.
He then set to dare the city coaches and athletes to perform better in all upcoming sport competitions.
"Let us not sleep on our achievements but let's take it to a challenge in sustaining our performance and improving ourselves," Domogan said.
Out of the 204 gold medals, the summer capital hauled a total of 125 from the secondary while 79 came from the elementary level.
Baguio City will once again try to defend the crown as it seeks to continue its three-decade reign of lording the annual regional competition when it hosts CARAA February next year.
