PHILIPPINE Women’s University Lady Falcons pounced on the King’s College of the Philippines Lady Lancers to draw first blood in game one of the best-of-three series in the women’s volleyball of the Cordillera Higher Education Athletics Association season 12.

The Lady Falcons continued their mastery and seek for another crown with straight set victories, 25-23, 25-10, 25-20, at the Easter College gym Thursday morning.

Jerusha Pagnas punctuated yet another stellar performance with 17 points to set the tone for the Lady Falcons championship bid.

“We really look forward to regain this season’s title, lalo pa at last year na ng most starters dito sa team,” said Pagnas after the game.

“Medyo may nerbiyos sa laro pero we are decided to close the competition sa game two, dapat manalo na kami doon,” Pagnas said.

With the victory, the Lady Falcons are just one game away from the crown they won last year.

PWU coach Flemington Comicho said he looks forward to dominate game two.

“Kailangan maging focused ang mga players lalo at isang game nalang ang kailangan para manalo ulit this season, siyempre we will be honoured kapag nagawa naming i-depensa ang title,” Comicho said.

KCP were able to gain an early 0-5 lead at the first set of the ballgame, but it was short lived as PWU tied the game 6 all with Pagnas leading the team.

The Lady Lancers then answered back and attacked the error-prone Falcons to lead 14-6, but PWU was able to recompose and steal the set’s victory as Pagnas and Marivic Biernes chipped in 12 points.

PWU extended the Lady Lancer’s woes in the second set as KCP found themselves committing errors.

KCP tried to stage a comeback in set three as Rebbeca Nayusan and Vangie Bay-an stepped up their game to lead the Lancers 6-12. But Pagnas and Biernes rallied for another 12 points that brought them to a 20-15 edge.

“Hopefully, hindi na namin sila pahahabulin to land sa game three, siguro the best strategy for now is to stick with the same game saka na ang adjustment kung kailangan man,” Comicho added. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
