UNIVERSITY of the Cordilleras roared back to life during the weekend to improve its standing by snatching three championships to open their bid in the second phase of the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League season 27.

UC Jaguars returned with flare in the women's softball competition by easily disposing their rivals at the BSU Football grounds.

The reigning PRISAA national champion rolled to an easy 16-0 victory against University of Baguio before conquering Saint Louis University with a 13-7 win.

After last year’s disqualification, the seven time champion came out the inside the diamond with fire in their eyes while dousing ice cold water against the resurging Benguet State University.

Hospitality Management senior and pitcher Anna Leah Roberto of Batanes baffled BSU batters with a surprising array of fast and off-speed pitches and lead the Jaguars to a clear 8-3 victory.

Jaguars’ shortstop Lizel Tanding had a solo homer off pitcher Korina Liwan on the 3rd inning, while BSU’s Alnejie Fuchigami cashed on a fielding miscue by left fielder, Jade Fagyan to score a solo homerun.

SLU meanwhile retained the crown in the men’s side after repeating against BSU while Philippine Military Academy and UB came in third and fourth place, respectively.

With their successful return to the top women’s softball, UC snatched two more championships to complete the hat – trick during the weekend kick off in the league’s second phase of competition.

Both the men and women’s lawn tennis squad topped the contest with SLU and UB placing second and third in the men’s side while PMA and University of the Philippines – Baguio completed the top five.

UB meanwhile placed second in the distaff side while SLU landed third as UP – Baguio and PMA finished fourth and fifth respectively.

The hat-trick for UC will be their sixth championship in this year’s staging of the BBEAL as UB continue to lord it over with eight championships while SLU slid to third with their five championships.

Upcoming events for the second phase in BBEAL include judo and tae kwon do which is scheduled to play on the 25th and 26th while football will kick-off this coming February 1, 2, and 8th.

Athletics will be played at the Baguio Teachers Camp on February 15-16 while special events included are the body building competition, the fun run which is seen to lure over 2,000 participants on February 8, and the search for Mr. & Ms. BBEAL slated February 14.
