Hundreds in Scout Barrio half Marathon

THE FROSTY early morning chill is set to greet runners joining the Scout Barrio Centennial Half Marathon which starts at the Burnham Park, Lake Drive slated February 2.

In partnership with Cool City Running, some 500 competitors will test their speed and endurance as one of the eldest barangay in the city celebrates its 100th year of founding.

Organizers of the event said the marathon will be one of the highlights in their barangay’s month-long celebration line-up of events.


“This will be the first time that we will incorporate running to the community’s celebration, we would like people to know that we are promoting good health by challenging serious runners and those who enjoy running to participate,” said race organizer Gay Hope Ramos.

The race will cater four race categories that include the 21K half marathon, 10K, 5K, and 3K, with registration fees of P500, P400, P300, and P200 respectively. Organizers have also included minimal registration amount of P50 for children 12 years-old and below.

All registration fees, excluding the 12 below category, will be inclusive of race shirts, race bibs, certificates, and a post run snack, with medals to be given for the 21K finishers.

Cash prizes await the top five finishers for the male and female in the 21K race, while in the 10K, 5K, and 3K categories the top three for both male and female awarded.

Race route for 21K will start at the Burnham Lake Drive passing through Kisad Road exiting BGH rotunda to pass through Military Cut Off, towards Loakan Road-Scout Barrio straight to Kias-Balatoc inter section and back.

3K will follow the same route and turn back in front of Kubong Sawali in Military Cut Off, the 5K will have its turning point at the Loakan Road before the Camp John Hay Gate 1, while the 10K will have the Loakan Road Cemetery as its marker.

Also included in the centennial events are the search for Miss Gay Pageant on February 8, “Battle of Champions” Drum and Lyre competition and the Miss Scout Barrio Centennial on February 15.
