RENE Lagit and Jerry Rigos capped a total of 40 combined points to rally Team Narcita in a 99-91 victory against Angluben in the bracket A of the ongoing eliminations of the 1st Budz Cup Basketball Invitational Tournament 2013.

Missing most of their shot attempts in the first quarter, Narcita toppled the Angluben squad in their Saturday night ballgame at the Easter College gym.

“Maganda ang naging adjustment ng team sa defense, doon kami actually bumawi lalo during the second quarter,” said Narcita coach Danny Manipon after the game.

Manipon mentioned teamwork was the key in winning.

“Tiwala naman ako sa bawat player, talagang nagtulungan lang sila ng maigi lalo sa ball rotation kaya kami nanalo tonight,” Manipon said.

“Hopefully we can continue with this type of play sa mga susunod na laro,” added Manipon.

Narcita took charge early in the second quarter as Lagit and Jun Delacerna dropped three three-pointers leaving the Angluben squad trailing behind, 35-27, with 4:07 running on the clock.
But the CJ Baculi and Marlon Nuebo duo from Angluben forced seven points to narrow the gap, 35-34, in the 1:15 marker, Narcita in front.

But the glass and aluminium builders stepped up their offense as Rigos and Mark Lester Viray chipped in 11 points to close the first half, 48-38, Angluben trailing.

Narcita maintained their momentum in the third canto of the ballgame earning their biggest lead of 14 points to close the quarter, 74-60, Angluben straggling.

Angluben staged to comeback at the payoff canto as Baculi and Nuebo carved 18 points to close the gap, 88-80, with 2:50 remaining.

Narcita taxed to rally on the fast breaks but the Angluben squad continued to convert points that cut them back to a four point trail, 93-89, at the 1:12 marker.

Ernani Villareal took another two-point fastbreak for Angluben but that was their last holler as Rigos dropped another five points from the free throw line sealing the victory for Narcita.

“Medyo may pressure lalo sa first quarter kasi maraming bitaw ng bola ang hindi pumapasok sa ring,” said Lagit after the game.

“Pero eventually nakabawi naman sa adjustments, next game ganun pa rin kailangan ng magandang teamwork sa loob ng court,” Lagit closed. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
