OUR experience in the Ultimate Fighting Championship was of different kind. Although we have competed internationally in the past, this was kind of different. However, unfortunately, Dave did not get the win this time. We just hope we have still given pride and honor to the country even if we did not bring home the victory. We did our best; nothing to be ashamed of. We’ve got nothing but experience and more lessons learned.

We would like to thank the UFC for the opportunity they have given Dave and Team Lakay to fight in the Octagon. Indeed, we take pride in Dave Galera as being the first Filipino National to have stepped up and fight in the Octagon. We hope to see more Filipinos have the opportunity to showcase how great Filipinos are in terms of MMA because we have great talents here in the Philippines if given the chance.

Before the fight, there are a lot of distractions. A lot of hesitations because of some hindrance, but we have gone through it. Because of this, we would like to thank the following for their assistance and help before, during and after Dave’s fight: Representative Nicasio Aliping, Atty. Dante Bagsan, Dr. Dave Taclobao, Dr. John Harold Hiyadan, DFA Baguio Director Edgar Canta, Aris Matibag, Jojit Balajadia, Paul Cortes, Tristan Rebuyaco, Shawn Cheah, Mah Yong Jian, our trainers, team mates and the whole Team Lakay family.

Also, we would like to thank all of you who have supported and prayed for us in this particular endeavour of Team Lakay. Through this, we have seen and felt your support. May you always be there for us as we try to always give honor and pride to our country in every fight that we have.

This year will be a much busier year for us. As early as now we have scheduled fights in the first event of ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) in 2014 which will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 14th. This will be big so watch it out! One of our best fighters will again be battling in the said arena.

On March, the Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) will also have their first event in Manila for 2014. Three of our fighters will be fighting including one for a Title shot. It will be different this time, since PXC maybe planning to open a different weight category which opens a lot of opportunity to our fighters.

Another local promotion will be starting their debut event on April 5 in Manila which plans to have a different format of competition, the tournament type, which a lot of us are familiar with. It is a ladder type competition wherein the remaining fighters will fight for the title after a given time and level of competitions. Six of our fighters are set to fight in the said tournament.

As Team Lakay envisions to promote Baguio City and the Cordillera Administrative Region to be a martial arts hub, we believe the City Government of Baguio and the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation, Inc. (BFFFI) support this advocacy. Because of this, we wish to partner with the City Government of Baguio and the BFFFI, the organizers of the one of the most attended festival in the Philippines, by taking take part in the month-long Panagbenga celebration by letting us be part of the minor programs of the said event.

The Panagbenga will start form February 1 to March 2, 2014 which includes the major activities such as the Drum and Lyre Competition, Market Encounter and Landscape Competition, Fluvial Parade, Grand Street Dancing Parade, Grand Float Parade and the Session Road in Bloom.

Team Lakay will be having its 15th Team Lakay Grappler’s Cup as part of the activities during the Panagbenga or Flower Festival which will be on February 16, 2014, from 8:00 in the morning until 6 p.m. In support of the Panagbenga 2014’s theme: "Inspiring the Community for a Greener Tomorrow," we will hold our Grappler’s Cup at the Igorot Garden.

We find it appropriate to have the Igorot Garden as the venue of our event as we promote a High-Altitude competition and this time in an outdoor ambience, thereby letting the competitors from Baguio City; La Trinidad, Benguet; and most especially the visiting competitors from other places in the country; as well as the spectators appreciate the climate and scene of the said location.

The Grappler’s Cup will be joined by different competitors from different gyms of Baguio City, La Trinidad, Mountain Province, La Union, Cavite and other parts of the Philippines.

We invite those who are interested to come and join us. Just visit our Lakay gyms located in Kayang Street, Baguio City, and Pine Valley Plaza in Km.4, La Trinidad, Benguet for registration and for more information. The event is also open to the public so come watch us if you have time.

Most and above all, no matter what we did in the past and will do in the future, we always give back the Honor, Praises and Glory to GOD.
Matago tago tako am-in!

Happy New Year To All!
