DESPITE being a landlocked city without the presence of beaches and enough swimming pools, Baguio City is once again the favorite to top the swimming competition in the upcoming Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association 2014 slated this February.

With less than a month before the regional event, the city swimmers are in full throttle in their preparation for the upcoming regional meet to be hosted by neighboring Benguet.

Swimming coach Nelson Hipolito said the swimmers are all fired up for the weeklong competition.

"Okay naman ang mga exercise nila every session, we look forward na sa CARAA kaya nilang makipagsabayan, moreover mag-top ulit against other competing provinces,” Hipolito said.

Hipolito added he is confident most of their athletes will top their respective events.

“Kung ako ang tatanungin mataas ang confidence ko sa bawat swimmer natin,” Hipolito told Sun.Star Baguio. “Basta alagaan lang ang mga swimming rehearsals at magfocus pagdating sa competition proper iyon lang naman ang importante.”

Both the elementary boys and girls squads ran away with ease after combining for 341 points while Benguet and Mt. Province at second and third respectively in the boys division.

Kalinga will be the Summer Capital’s biggest rival in the girls division after a surprising second place finish last year with Mt. Province in third.

The secondary boy’s squad also lorded their events as they earned 185 points.

Abra, also a big leaper, generated 96 points with Kalinga totalling 40 for the second and third placers.

The secondary distaff scored a total 177 to stay at number one, with Abra and Kalinga’s 111 and 45 top scores to hit the second and third posts accordingly.
