BAGUIO City is once again in its usual cold months with its breeze bringing unbearable chill that even those born in this city can’t bear without their thick jackets or their layered clothes.

Even the bed are accessorized by comforters or thick blankets which always tempt one to snuggle in causing almost everyone to be late on their work due to non-stop snooze just to get that “5 minutes more” syndrome.

Oh yeah! The “5 minutes more” syndrome that turns into 30 minutes or more which causes everyone dribbling in a hurry just to make it in time for work or school.

Despite the weather, the “road warriors” are up to the challenge that even the chills and colder breeze will never be an obstacle to conquer those kilometers and have themselves a good sweat and make sure they provide their bodies the needed physical activity to stay physically well, never giving in to the temptation of snuggling into the comforter or thick blanketed accessorized bed which is always a challenge during this time of the year.

The Philippine Military Academy ‘Masikhay’ class of 1999 organized a running event called ‘Run 99’ to give more reason to runners to run their favorite distances for a cause that leaves both parties in a win-win situation.

Participation in this event helps organizers to raise funds for their scheduled community outreach activities lined up for this year and in a way runners stay physically well and shed some extra ‘love handles in the process’.

According to race director Major Ryan Celino “we intend primarily to encourage everybody to get out there and be physically active to burn some calories that piled-up during the food feast holidays, and in the process help us raise some funds to augment in our projects for the community, as officers of the AFP we are not only soldiers that defend the sovereignty of this nation but as parents and Filipino citizens we would also like to reach out in our own little way to those who needs help. With the help of generous sponsors and off course with the support of the runners who will participate in this event we will make this event successful and will surely change lives of those people that we could help, so in advance we are grateful to all and may God Bless us all.”

The ‘Run 99’ is set on January 19, 2014, Sunday, 4am at Lake Drive Burnham Park Baguio City, Registration Venues are at SM City Baguio and Outdoor Kinetix Burnham Park.

Race categories are 3km, 6km, 9.99km and 19.99km. For more information contact: Ryan (0917-879-5980), Myk (0932-444-4588), the race director (0917-745-0378) or visit their Facebook page:

‘Road Warrior’ registrations are inclusive of singlet, raffle entry, loot bag with drinks and finisher’s certificate.

The 19.99km ‘Road Warrior’ finishers will receive finisher’s shirt and medal.
