TEAM Torogi continues to ride high and scored several victories in different mix martial arts (MMA) promotion and muay thai events in the country.

Leading the victory is Edmundo Velasco Jr. who scored his second MMA career win by stopping former Universal Reality Combat Championship lightweight champion Angelito Manguray during the promotions event held recently at the SMX Convention Center.

It was a second round stoppage for Velasco who slugged it all out against the 40-year-old Manguray who took the first round with his aggressiveness and precise take downs.

With both fighters engaging in a slug fest in the second round, Manguray then took the battle to the ground but Velasco wittingly escaped the take down and put the fight on their feet with the Igorot fighter connecting leg kicks and elbows that prompted the referee to stop the fight.

In Tarlac City, four Team Torogi fighters also came home with four victories in the recently concluded “Muay thai Evolution: USC Tarlac Elimination” held at the 3rd Level Parking Area, SM City.

Radio disk jockey Joseph Olarte won a unanimous decision against his bigger opponent from Team Zeus Heinrich Baloloy of Furinkazan MMA and Fitness Gym in the welterweight division. Marlowe Vergara knocked out Albert Tinaco of Team Zeus in the second round of their Junior Middleweight division (159 lbs) to clinch the win in the amateur muay thai match.

In the professional-amateur match, Torogi fighter and 16-year-old Jerry Canutab, a freshman Information Technology student of Baguio College of Technology, scored a unanimous decision against his tougher and older opponent in Edgie Bautista of Team Blood from Manila in the Junior Bantamweight division (117 lbs).

Seventeen-year-old Noel Johnson Olod, a BSIT 1 student of Benguet State University, scored a knockdown in the 3rd round against Noel Zabala, also of Team Zeus in Tarlac to get a unanimous decision from the judges in their flyweight (114 lbs) match in the co-main event of the evening.

With these victories, Olod and Canutab qualified for the USC 2nd qualifying leg in the USC Muay thai Championship this coming August in Manila. Earlier, two Torogi fighters scored victories in the Irisan Kickboxing and MMA Championships dubbed as “Art of War 1: Revolution” held at Elpidio Quirino Elementary School.

Torogi fighter Brindle Lee Kuengan of the University of the Cordilleras pulled off a unanimous decision against the veteran Sammy Matthew of Team UNICON (Universal-Contender Gym) on their 57-kilograms division.

Kuengan knocked down Matthew with a solid right straight to the chin at the middle of 3rd round but it was not enough to put Mathew away.

In the amateur MMA event, Torogi fighter and former national judo champion Darwin Camosol used his world class takedowns and ground experience to win against Allen Sig-ang of CCDC Wushu-Sanshou Team via unanimous decision on their 73-kilograms match.
