THE Causa Nostra (Our Cause) Biodiversity group is set to go back to its adopted forest area in Cabuyao, Tuba, Benguet on September 12 for a massive tree planting activity and vegetation rehab. It is expected that this will be supported by a bigger number of people coming from the different sectors in the city and adjoining towns.

This sustainable undertaking will be lead by the Apit Foundation headed by its initiator Sheree Moran Nolasco, a builder, urban planner, and owner of SMN Urban Development in coordination with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro), Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro), Office of DENR Secretary Ramon Paje, and the Cabuyao Community and Civilian Volunteers.

The public in encouraged to help reforest Cabuyao. A reason why a jeepney ride will be provided and will wait from 7:00-7:30 a.m. at Petron BGH.

It was in 2009 when Causa Nostra was formed with the aim to enjoin the public to view Baguio City from Mt. Cabuyao and volunteer to plant trees. After three years, a memorandum of agreement was signed between Cenro and Causa Nostra which paved the way for its adoption of the forest mountain side.

Causa Nostra’s aim is to save as much forest reserve as possible in collaboration with the Local Government Units (LGUs), Government Organizations (GOs), and Non Government Organizations (NGOs).

On September 14, the group will again visit Cabuyao for another reforestation project, which will last until weekends of October. This will be a joint project with DENR and other NGOs.

A simple act of tree planting will help preserve our environment. It will sustain our water supply and save energy. Let us all save our remaining forests by preserving the trees and planting some more. This is one important gift, which we can give for the next generations to come.
