Chemicals may affect male fertility

CHEMICALS found in common household products such as toothpastes, soaps and plastic toys have a direct impact on human sperm production, which could help explain the rising levels of male sterility. This is news shared by colleague Steve Connor of iLondon Times, in which one in three chemicals could indeed lower sperm counts and also the quality of sperms.As many as one in five healthy men aged 18 to 25 produces abnormally low levels of sperm of which there are many possible explanation ranging from cheicals in the environment to even just wearing very tight underwear or wearing a pouch to emphasize their manliness- common among male teenagers, the practice, that is-.

The latest study suggests a direct effect on the sperm's ability to penetrate the ovum or egg of the female in order to fertilize it. About a third of the nearly 100 chemicals tested affected the so-called "catsper" protein hat is vital and crucial for sperm function- its ability to move and swim upward into the fallopian tube as well as its ability to penetrate the covering of the ovum to effect the fertilixation process, that would result to a zygote, which is the beginning of a new life or an offspring.

In 1991, Professor Niels Skakebaek produced evidence that sperm cell counts had fallen by nearly 50 in less than 50 years.
