Awesome Life

My Dearest...

Friday, April 11, 2014

I JUST finished reading a book entitled “My Heart’s Desire” by David Jeremiah, and it has awakened the drowsing melody of praise in my heart.

High up in majestic Mt. Pulag, watching the sun slowly rise above the sea of clouds.

Deep down at the Sumaguing caves of Sagada, daunted by the enervating trek and the sights of striking rock formations. By the shore of Sunset Bay Resort in La Union, peacefully immersed in the bursting colors of the sky as the sun sets in the horizon.

These scenes depict three of the innumerable awesome experiences I have had in my life. I say innumerable, because I realize that if I will look closely at my nearly 54 years of existence, I would not be able to finish counting the magnificent and marvelous events in my life.

These words seem outrageous or exaggerated at the least. After all, my life has not been without any sadness, sickness and suffering, nor disappointments, disillusionments and discouragements.

But, I say with great conviction now that my life has largely been awesome and I know that in spite of the daily toils and trials I face, it will continue to be awesome.

Why? Because, I have learned the secret to living an awesome life!
The secret is to live every moment in the wonder of worship!

Worship is not the simple singing of worship songs. It is not the congregational gathering to pray, praise and petition, during mass or prayer meetings. It is a moment-by-moment personal relationship with a living God. As we learn to worship God every moment of our life, our life becomes more filled with awe and wonder at the God who makes all things beautiful in His time.

The bible says, “Unless you become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.” One great attribute of little children that we should emulate is their sense of awe and wonder. I believe that this is what becomes lacking in our lives as we grow older and not necessarily wiser. A child in his innocence looks with wide eyes at the world; expectant, hopeful, curious, full of wonder.

How can we look at the splendid sunrise, the glorious sunset, the magnificent mountains or the unfathomable ocean and not sigh with reverent awe or sing with endless praise and worship to the Hand that created such beauty. How can we not marvel at God’s spectacular creation?

But the nitty gritty of our daily lives dull our senses to the beauty around us.

After all, the reality is that, in spite of all these, our world is full of hatred and hostilities. It is filled with violence, immorality and all sorts of sin. We face many ordeals in our homes, our schools and our communities.

How can we look beyond this ugliness and still praise and worship God, and thus have an awesome life?

My Dearest Children,

I believe that if we are constantly in God’s presence, we cannot help but see everything and every situation with His eyes, and thus continue to praise and worship Him.

God is everywhere. We simply need to be aware of His presence. But, unless we know Him, we will not recognize Him even if we meet Him face to face. Thus, I pray that each one of you will do your best to get to know Him more, by reading His words in the bible, and having a personal relationship with Him. Unless we know God, how can we truly say we love Him?

I remember when I fell in love with your Dad. What brought me so much joy was being with him. We talked endlessly, getting to know one another. We wrote tons of letters.

Your Dad racked up his telephone bills, when we were apart. (Lucky you, you now have cellphones with Unli text and calls) Thoughts of him filled my waking and sleeping hours. I loved to speak to him and speak about him. (I still do!) He inspired me to study well, to give my best and become the best that I could be. I could face any and all trials because I knew he loved me and was by my side. (I still feel the same way.)

When we love someone, we want to spend as much time with him/her as much as possible.

When we love someone, we are willing to sacrifice for our beloved.
I have to confess that I have not been completely honest when I say I love God. I realize that I need to fall deeper in love with Him. I need to know Him more by reading and studying His words in the bible.

The more we know God, the more we will love Him. The more we love Him, the more we will recognize Him in every situation, in every person, in every creation. And then our hearts will be filled with awe and wonder that we could not help but praise and worship Him.

If we learn to look with the eyes of Love, which are the eyes of God, then we will learn to praise and worship God every moment of our lives.

It may take a lifetime to learn how to do it, but remember, this lifetime is but a grain of sand in the seashore of eternity. And when we reach heaven, we will already know what to do, for we have lived our lives doing it.

I thank God for David Jeremiah’s book, for opening my eyes and awakening the sleeping melody of praise in my heart! I pray for the grace to continue to learn to love and to live an awesome life, living moment by moment in the wonder of worship. I pray for the same grace for each of you.

"Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things." – Psalm 98:1
