LED Sign-A A +A

“LIKE a little boy with a new toy”, was how my children described me when I got hold of one of the first LED lighted message signs in Baguio, many years ago. Imagine, it could run any ad, message or reminder for all to see.
A few years earlier, before Baguio had so many tarpaulin printing machines, I also had so much fun printing big tarpaulin signages. I once had a big one printed and hung vertically down the corner of Hotel Veniz with the picture of a BIG MAC and the caption, “We print BIG!”
Yesterday, I saw a huge, real huge, LED sign with various beautifully and artistically made commercials being flashed. I kind of wished I was as artistic and computer savvy as the makers, much like Jayson, a talented and humble computer artist, I work with.
With so many other huge LED signs all around, competition for people’s attention is kind of stiff. The LED wall sign I was looking at was at least 10 storeys high, and 10 meters wide, and it wasn’t even catching the attention it deserved. LED signs have become a common sight. The material on it must stand out to be noticed.
What made the sign memorable was a simple black and white full text message that said: “Giving the best is what we do! Being the best we can is …” I missed out the last few words! I brought out my camera, ready to take a shot of the picture when it would be flashed again. I waited and waited. I must have seen 30 different ads, and still the plain message was not flashed again!
And so, I completed the message with the words… “who we are”,
Yes. “Giving the best is what we do. Being the best is who we are!”
Most ads entice us to spend. Some ads make us feel good. And other ads make us think.
That message I read made me think.
Do we give our best? Do we give our best in all we do, in whatever we do?
How we do things, how we do our jobs repeatedly and consistently, is a reflection of who we are.
What we do when no one is watching us, is who we are, the real us!
No amount of advertising, public relations stuff, self-serving messages, image building on tarps, or LED signs, can change the real us. Unless of course, the “lie” becomes a goal to reach out for.
What we repeatedly do become our habits; and our habits form our character.
Give our best. Be the best we can be. Fulfilling it and reaching our potential is success. Being successful is what we were all made out to be! It is up to us!
