Cybersex and Other Things

MANY years ago, a foreign charity organization here in our city was found to be a front for child porn. Lurid pictures of children were confiscated some of which reached the hands of the public. Pitiful, innocent children were made to pose and undergo what adult sex workers do. Baguio was shocked and hounded into sleepless nights and restless days. Parents became stricter with their children and curfews were set.

Some children and even young teens went missing during those times and child porn became a curious and horrible news that upset everyone.

Sometime later, the news subsided and disappeared altogether as though it never happened.

Today the national papers shout at child porn as the country’s number one crime. How could this happen in a nation that ‘s known to be christian and predominantly catholic? What happened to our peace and order keepers? What’s going on in the hallways of our social welfare department? How could parents permit this to happen to their children? And why do unscrupulous people bank on innocent children, preying on their limited knowledge and pushing them to worlds even "angels fear to tread?" We can go on asking the questions that haunt but the answers will always be the same. Money, poverty, deterioration of values and people in or out of government who don’t care or who don’t know what’s going on. Many say it’s poverty and the need for a better life that force people to do what they would not do otherwise. Is money really the “root of all evil?” People of our nation, so many things are more important and more meaningful than money. Let’s brush up on our values as a people and learn to live beautifully again.

But why children, innocent, growing children? It’s enough that everywhere we go there are adults involved in human trafficking. This does not even stop within schools and government. How many times have the papers brought out news on teachers preying on their students? Or older neighbors and even relatives victimizing children in their own communities and families?

This has become a sorry state, a horrible situation for the families of victims who after being abused, were killed by their predators. Child porn and sexual child abuse should be given a life sentence or even capital punishment! These are children of God ! Take care of them and treat them delicately so the world may become a better place in the future.

And other things.

A few years back, a house in a residential neighbourhood was raided and equipment for human trafficking through the internet was unfolded. Cybersex in Baguio was existent and still goes on. What’s happening? Help please.

And still other things.

How many professionals give the bad example of attaching themselves to powerful and monied individuals just to be given a push in their careers and in their financial states? This is how cheap and unsubstantial some people today have become. There are many broken families and relationships because third parties aggressively insist on their presence in the lives of those they perceive can help them, no matter how committed these people are to others. Homes and relationships that decades have sown and grown, all go to nothing because some people decided to get what they wanted unmindful of consequences. They mind only their own needs and pleasures. Does this sound familiar? God, it’s time for these people who destroy and hurt to move on and leave families and relationships at peace. Children see these and the horrible consequence. Later in their own lives, they grow callous or too sensitive. Worse, they imitate. Ugly? Yes, but this is the reality of our times that can still be cured if only people started to care for others genuinely. Bless our souls, Baguio and may we be guided by heaven. Blessings and happy Chinese New year to all!
