THE Cordillera is one yet still diverse.

The Regional Development Council held a seminar on cultural heritage March 25 to 27 for members of the council, including the private sector to learn more about the varied cultural practices in the region.

RDC vice chairperson Milagros Rimando said the seminar is to distinguish the cultural practices of one indigenous cultural group from the others.

"We conducted the seminar kasi we know that in Cordillera, we are in one region but iba-ibang tribes yan and we have different practices," she said.

"We have to understand each other's cultural practice," she added explaining learning the appropriate and proper ways to perform traditions is important in certain events in the region such as the celebration of Cordillera Month.

Performed and discussed in the seminar were the different cultural dances of the six provinces and how they differ despite how similar they look.

Other topics were the Cordillera history, cultural heritage development, material and non-material heritage, Cordillera weaves and attires and the presentation and use of the gong which is one of the many symbols that is similar among the six provinces of CAR.

Rimando noted this is only the start of the continuing education on Cordillera's cultural heritage to promote understanding and appreciation of each other's culture among Cordillerans and to showcase these to other people, both local and tourists.

On the culmination of the seminar, the participants discussed and agreed on the protocols during regional events like the Cordillera Month and other major events.

Rimando noted this is to perform the cultural practices and traditions properly and to preserve their authenticity.
