La Trinidad, Benguet – Governor Nestor Fongwan is pushing for a retraining of policemen here to prevent future crimes.

Recently, three cops were relieved after the gruesome killing of two civilians during a shooting spree near the Provincial Capitol.

Tagged in the shooting is Police Officer 2 Frenzel Mendoza, who was accompanied with three other Valley cops, Police Officer 3 Cid Acop and Nemer Comising and Police officer 2 Maferson Santiago.

Fongwan said the province is not known for violence and said the incident at the Midtown bar was an isolated case.

“This is an outburst of one person,” Fongwan said.

Mendoza shot his issued firearm, killing two men, Midtown Bar co-owner Cesar Palitog Degay and security personnel Sonny Caswang Awingan while injuring Reymar Cosendo Copis in the bar brawl.

Fongwan said retooling or retraining for policemen is in order.

“Pag naka-off duty, dapat wala na dalang firearms,” added Fongwan.

Cordillera police Chief Isagani Nerez issued a similar statement, saying a retraining for police is underway for the conduct of officers.

Mendoza now faces double murder and frustrated homicide raps in court aside from an administrative case which may lead to separation from the service.

Mendoza and the three other cops were off duty when the crime happened.
