30 candidates vie for Ms. Baguio 2014 crown

COMMUNITY involvement and human capital development of women.

These are the advocacies of the organizers of Miss Baguio 2014 as they introduced the 30 competing candidates to media Wednesday.

The competing candidates, which were chosen based on qualifications set by Ms. Universe and Bb. Pilipinas are all Baguio City residents for barangays to be well represented.


The aspiring beauty queens aiming for the prestige and honor of the crown are Mae Samantha Abenoja, Djhoanna Marie Alcantara, Ellaiza Marie Arances, Yra Bacalanmo, Kimberly Bagtila, Sheena Cabigao, Lyka Joy Camdas, Myle Anne Costales, Shawntel Cruz, Charmaine Dalimocon, Arlene De Vera, Rhiz Dulnuan, Charmie Ferreria, Liberty Gallente and Mavis Griffiths.

In addition, Phoebe Langaoan, Melanie Nepomuceno, Kristal Ochinang, Mary Orejuela, Alana Pajarillo, Christine Picardal, Camille Punsalan, Carmela Sayana, Janikka Tabbada, Beth Zion Tibaldo, Sharmaine Valdez, Shalida Veneracion, Charlyn Villena, Beltrudy Viloria, and Catlyn Zapanta are also set to vie for the crown.

Event organizer Bench Bacani told media during the weekly Kapihan this year's search is different among other searches in the past because the candidates will be engaged in community activities.

Partnered with the Save our Women, Baguio Center for Young Adults and Make a Wish Foundation, the candidates will engage in immersion activities to be aware of the social concerns in Baguio City.

Bacani highlighted it is important for candidates to be aware of social issues in the city especially those concerning women, youth and children.
On August 6, the candidates interacted with the inmates of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

Patricia Gallardo of Save our Women said the activity aimed to inspire the candidates to do something more to empower and protect the welfare of women.

Moreover, the ladies will also have a life skill workshop, an eco-tour in the different landmarks in the city, a tree planting activity, blood letting campaign, a series of barangay based and school based feeding program and distribution of school supplies.

Aside from the communal activities, the candidates will also be groomed to be the best of themselves that will embody the beauty of a Baguio woman.

A pre-pageant of Miss Baguio will be staged August 26-27 while the final pageant will be held August 29 at the Baguio Convention Center.

The lady who will reign as Miss Baguio will receive a cash prize worth P50,000, a modeling portfolio by MnB Productions and Mukhang Baguio Photography, advertising portfolio from sponsors and event partners and editorial spread in local newspapers.

Furthermore, the 1st runner up and 2nd runner up will both receive a modeling portfolio and a P30,000 and P20,000, correspondingly. The 3rd and 4th runners up will also be given P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.
