LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- Trash stored at the Alno dumpsite is being monitored these rainy days.

Municipal Engineer Benedict Pineda said since there is still a substantial amount of trash at the Alno site, there will always be a danger, unless the town empties the area.

Pineda said a strict monitoring at the Alno site is being done to ensure safety of the surroundings.

At least three scenarios in the area are being feared by the municipality to happen which include trash falling and causing a trash slide; collapse of the riprap wall supporting the trash and both trash and the wall giving way.

Pineda said there are two personnel on site monitoring the area as well as ocular inspections every week to see if everything is still safe.

The Alno dump site has exceeded its capacity and is danger of collapsing, fearing a repeat of the Baguio trash slide will happen based on a report by municipal Engineering office.

The capacity of the Alno site is an actual 10,000 tons of waste but is now over 35,000 tons its limit, teetering dangerously to inducing hairline cracks and the worst case scenario; a trash slide.

The municipality has resorted to hauling out garbage to Tarlac, getting the services of a hauler to empty the Alno site as well as take away daily waste of the municipality.

A strict segregation policy will now be implemented by the Valley to push residents to take care of their own waste in a bid to reduce the 93 tons of waste generated a day in the town and if segregation is a success, volume of waste going to the dumpsite is lessened, giving way for more room for the landfill.
